I've been asked to bring a side dish to a gathering of friends at Christmas Eve. I'd really like to bring the Warm Carrot and Asparagus Salad with Sesame Dressing from High Flavor/Low Labor. Unfortunately, I cooked from a borrowed (library) copy, and for some reason, I didn't copy down that recipe. I also cannot find anything similar by googling.
Can anyone email me the recipe for the dressing? Or could you suggest a similar alternative?

What special things are you cooking for the holidays?]]>

I can see offering an ad-free membership for a modest annual fee as an option. Let me know if that's something people might be interested in. I'm also open to other options to bring more value to the site, things which might be worth paying a subscription for. ]]>

Advanced search is available by clicking 'Search' on the top menu. You can search by cuisine type and course as well as choosing to search in different ways (all words, exact word and exact title).

We don't have tags for individual recipes. That will be coming when I figure out the best way to implement it - perhaps as an ingredient list more than just tags.

Let me know of any bugs here. I've already noticed that tags don't show up yet on Magazine pages. This will be fixed soon. ]]>
Free Copy of Current Challenge Book: High Flavor, Low Labor http://cookbooker.com/test-dir/forum/discussion/15/free-copy-of-current-challenge-book-high-flavor-low-labor Fri, 29 Oct 2010 22:00:17 -0400 andrew 15@/test-dir/forum/discussions
If you're interested, here are the conditions: you must intend to do some cooking from this book for the challenge (we want your reviews!), and you must live in Canada or the US (sorry international folk, but I'm sending this out on my own dime, and overseas shipping is expensive).

To be eligible, just reply to this thread with something creative - how about your favorite Halloween treat? I'll randomly pick someone on Monday or Tuesday depending on how many people reply to this. [Note: this was initially Sunday but since most people replying so far either are getting the book or not participating, I'm giving it a little longer]]]>

For me, I think my essential is Madhur Jaffrey's Quick & Easy Indian. I also love Amy Kaneko's Let's Cook Japanese! Both are amazing Chronicle cookbooks (my favorite cookbook pub.) Although, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution is quickly becoming stained as well- what a great book for easy food!]]>
Question about challah http://cookbooker.com/test-dir/forum/discussion/6/question-about-challah Sat, 04 Sep 2010 22:06:24 -0400 bhnyc 6@/test-dir/forum/discussions I am hoping someone can help me. I would like to make a raisin challah next week. I was planning on using the challah recipe in Artisan Bread Every Day (I see that a number of people gave it a high rating). However, this recipe does not call for raisins. Can someone suggest how much I should add? Or do you have a different recipe you recommend? Thanks!]]> What is your favorite cookie recipe? http://cookbooker.com/test-dir/forum/discussion/10/what-is-your-favorite-cookie-recipe Wed, 29 Sep 2010 20:23:14 -0400 bhnyc 10@/test-dir/forum/discussions In one of the other posts Andrew mentioned a chocolate cookie bake-off. It made me think that I should get your thoughts on this one...For the past three years my work has a bake-off of some sort: chocolate desserts, cakes, pies. The next one, in February, is a cookie competition. I have practiced a few already but nothing that would win.

My question for you is: If you could enter only one cookie what would it be?

Please reference the cookbook, too. Then I will continue practicing!

Thanks-
B

Importing your library http://cookbooker.com/test-dir/forum/discussion/8/importing-your-library Sat, 18 Sep 2010 22:16:19 -0400 andrew 8@/test-dir/forum/discussions
Right now you will be able to import library files from LibraryThing, Shelfari and GoodReads to populate your bookshelf. If anyone would like to help test it out, you can do so by going to http://www.cookbooker.com/import.php and following the directions. In my own testing, it has worked just fine on files from all three websites, but there's nothing like getting other people to test something out to find the flaws.

If you do use this, please email me using the 'contact us' link at the bottom of any page, or reply to this discussion thread, to let me know how it went for you. Right now it just pulls in the ISBNs from your file and then connects them to Cookbooker titles, allowing you to preview them before adding them to your bookshelf (and also allowing you to add new books to the site). If there's a demand for it, I can also look into grabbing ratings and reviews from the websites; this is a little more complicated, but should be doable.

If you use another website or a software program to organize your library, let me know and I should be able to add it to the import list - I'll need a copy of your exported file to examine it first. ]]>
The best and the worst cookbooks, from the Observer http://cookbooker.com/test-dir/forum/discussion/5/the-best-and-the-worst-cookbooks-from-the-observer Mon, 30 Aug 2010 14:42:04 -0400 andrew 5@/test-dir/forum/discussions http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/13/50-best-cookbooks-ofm

Then the Guardian (part of the same website/newpaper) just published a list of what the author thinks are the worst food books, partly in response to the first article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2010/aug/20/worst-food-books

They then talk to food writers about their own favourites: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/series/ofm-50-best-cookbooks

These lists are guaranteed to cause discussion, dissent and general chatter, which is why the newspapers love to publish them. Still, useful sometimes to discover books you hadn't heard of or had forgotten. In this case, it's quite British, but does include a few US and Australian titles. I have to say, I haven't read most of them. Some work to do...]]>
