This is one of my favourite cook books and one that I would recommend to anyone who is fairly new to cooking and doesn't know where to begin. There are a wide range of recipes, though I think that they are meant to represent the types of dishes that people generally enjoy eating at home including roasts, curries, stir fries, soups and quick weekday meals. It has certainly helped my confidence in the kitchen and I also think that it's a good collection of general recipes for cooks at any level.
