What I'm Working on
Update: January 16th - okay, the few days for the cover uploading has stretched into January - the holiday season interfered, and it was a bit more complicated than I'd thought. It should be up this week however, all going well.

Linking recipes
Adding a links field should be straightforward; I'll put that on the near term list and try to get it working soon. Automatically cross-posting the review to the website listing is a lot more challenging, however. I'll put my thinking cap …

Linking recipes
Are you trying to avoid rating the same recipe twice on Cookbooker, or making sure that the recipe page links to the copy of the recipe on the blog? I've considered putting a field in each recipe review which links to a copy of the recipe if …

Polenta Advice
Thanks everyone! I let it firm up on a sheet pan as the recipe states and it did get nice and firm. I've cut it and put it in the fridge, and will look at some of the firm polenta recipes to see what I can do with it now... So obviously it seem…

I've bought one cookbook for the Kindle - Rose's Heavenly Cakes, as well as downloading the first chapters of a few cookbooks. I looked at them on the Kindle itself and on the iPad version and was a bit disappointed, to be honest. The layo…

Ad Hoc Question
@bhnyc - did you end up making the pork, and did it work out? Our New Year's dinner was a splendid success. It was just my wife and I (our two daughters had their favourite, home made mac & cheese), and we made short work of our duck (it wa…

Ad Hoc Question
I've just peeked at the recipe - it calls for fig jam made with fresh figs, but I'm sure you can improvise with no major issues as aj12745 said - I'd probably just simmer some dried figs in a little hot water until they're soft a…

Christmas/Holiday cooking
We'll have to do an Ina Garten challenge in the new year (though the next one will be vegetarian). I'm very curious too.

Yes, it's very possible. I'm still trying to figure out what it would look like. Normally everything is set up so that it all connects with actual recipes which are already listed on the site. I created the recipe folder button on each rec…

Christmas/Holiday cooking
I'm torn, as I am every year, between trying interesting new things, and keeping with family favourites. We're doing a nice big organic chicken instead of turkey this year, so I'm going to do the Zuni Roast (normally I'd do Thoma…

@aj12754 - do you mean a simple note-taking area rather than something that requires you to select the right cookbook, recipe etc?

Hi all - just saw this and I've fixed it now - it was a silly mistake on my part. I see a bit of a pattern in that sometimes when I create a new feature, there are no members with more than one page of something, so a multi page bug takes a whi…

Thanks @friederike and @aj12754 - In the new year I'll be looking into some advanced features and see if I can put together a package that would be well worth paying for. The basic site will always be free.

Newest Challenge: The Zuni Cafe Cookbook
I could always extend it later into January if the holidays are going to interfere; I guess it depends on whether people spend more time on the old classics or like to take some of their holiday to try something new.

What I'm Working on

Okay, I've decided on the next challenge. Serendipity brought me to it. I was in a used bookstore the other day looking for some Harry Potter for my daughter, and they had a beautiful copy of the Zuni Cafe Cookbook. I had a look through it, was…

@LazyLurker - it's not easy to tell in advance how many libraries have a cookbook, however if the book has been out for a while and was fairly popular, then you can be pretty sure libraries will have it. Brand new books, not so much.

@Leeka - that does make sense, but at the moment it's not possible. When you index a recipe, it just adds the recipe title and page number into the database. The private note is directly attached to the review itself, which is a separate item. …

New Feature: Private Notes
@aj12754 and @southerncooker - thanks for alerting me to this bug. My logic was incorrect, it turned out (like a wonky Mr. Spock) and the page was accidentally discarding the review if you left the personal notes empty. I'm sorry for any inconv…
