This picture shows Queezle, a quail who lived with us for a year. She because our friend (not dinner), but eventually a wild male courted her through the window, and so she returned to the wild.

The New Future of Cookbooker
Hi Andrew, nice to hear from you. Very generous to keep it running, we love it. With the demise of 101cookbooks recipe group, there is a niche market for this site (people were grumbling about missing the 101cookbooks recipe review site on EYB, wh…

The New Future of Cookbooker
As we await changes in cookbooker, I was wondering if we could change the challenge on the home page. The NYT challenge was over long ago -- perhaps we could direct members to the thread about informal challenges, e.g. football and world peace rela…

Sept 21 might be reasonable. Let's do that! And yes, Friederike, I agree we should have world peace day every day.

Love these cross-over challenges. Maybe some day a challenge for world peace by making foods of regions with conflict (eg Israel/Palestine )? And yes, kitchen is perpetually 6-8 weeks away.

Question on hygiene - is it just me, or....
Slow, but I did put together the first cabinet last night. We discuss it to death - most recently revisiting the idea of two dishwashers (too complicated because light above sink is already in place). I think, though, that we are about to really m…

Question on hygiene - is it just me, or....
I just read your review - I agree - sounds a bit dangerous! I tend to even be skeptical about cooking a used marinade, preferring as you suggested, to use only half as marinade and half for a sauce. The hygiene concerns go beyond the cutting boa…

I swear, my daughter has never before watched soccer. But she is watching the spain-netherlands game, and is so excited, and begging for something dutch for dinner!

A hamburger with the lot? That means a slice of beet and a fried egg. Or a pavlova? I don't know if I can make a FIFA dinner tomorrow, though the thought of a spanish dinner is enticing.

I'm going to try a Brazilian Black Bean Stew (Feijoada) from vegetarian times - using canned beans, it looks quite do-able. Not sure what makes it Brazilian, but black beans and sweet potatoes is always a winning combination in my book! Than…

The kitchen is getting closer, but it still seems a far way off. I worry a bit that I've become used to not cooking, and used to eating crappy food, maybe I won't want to cook so much. But probably its just been a good break. I have a …

It would be really fun to make one dish for each country, and see if the winning dish corresponds to the winning team. Mexican - I can definitely do that.

advice for cooking without a kitchen (during remodeling)?
Thanks for asking, friederike, With spring coming, we've been able to grill out a bit, and I managed a killer cole slaw, using my food processor in the basement bedroom. Today we moved the refrigerator downstairs -- if we can get all the food-…

How do you sort your cookbooks?
I usually have six or seven that are out and accessible, and those are the ones I am generally using. The others are on a book case in a hodgepodge of organization that approximates topics (e.g. dessert cookbooks together).

I finally got a bookcase for my cookbooks
Wow -- that is nice! Nice sofa and wood floors, too. I store my cookbooks in an old oak bookcase that I picked up in an antique store more than 25 yrs ago. It has a label that it was made for inside a laboratory, and I'd bet its more than 1…
