@southerncooker - I've fixed it. Right now, we don't let people edit books because once there are recipes attached there's the chance of someone deleting a book and 'stranding' all the recipes. As for the recipe review, wh…

'Modernist Cuisine' authors launch free online cooking school
There are no reviews of sous vide books or recipes yet on Cookbooker - it's still very much a niche. Thomas Keller does have a book about it, owned by 8 cookbookers: http://www.cookbooker.com/title/2484/under-pressure-cooking-sous-vide - but no…

Ah. I know why. Certain titles don't show up as being available on Amazon. Especially if they have been added manually. In these cases a link is not generated.

Very interesting! I vaguely considered doing a sous vide machine - I saw a slow-cooker version you could hack together here that looked interesting - http://lifehacker.com/5679360/hack-a-slow-cooker-into-a-temperature+controlled-sous-vide-rig Thoug…

There should be @kaye16 - on the left menu on every book listing, there should be 3 Amazon links - Canada / US / UK. Let me know if there's a page where this is not apparent. Maybe they should be bigger?

Chow is a good site. I've spent time there too - great for restaurant recommendations when you're visiting to a new city. I'll be in Boston in March and I'm looking forward to hitting Flour Bakery and some funky restaurants, and …

Flour is fascinating! I've been making bread recipes from Chocolate & Zucchini, the blog, and luckily Clotilde, the author, has spent time in North America and does her best to translate French flours - which are also quite different and ar…

Same here - I seemed to lose my ability to do complicated things during the summer! Now fall is coming, I'm starting to get the itch to do some new cooking, though. Glad to see I'm not the only one - I felt guilty for not doing fantastic t…

I had a quick look online, but there's nothing easy (or free) that can be easily bolted onto Cookbooker, alas for the calories/nutrition. I will keep my eyes open, though, as I know it would be super-useful. There are some online tools, but the…

what's the matter with the searchbox?
Okay, both errors are fixed now. Thanks for flagging them! I was trying to implement an 'auto-complete' function on the search box but was having problems getting it to work and postponed it until later. Unfortunately I neglected to remov…

Oops - sorry, I missed this discussion last week. I'll have a look today and see what I can find out. Odd that it's working for some people and not others. I was doing some work on it to try to upgrade it, but I shouldn't have chang…

ISBN scanning tool
Alas, no, we simply don't have the resources to do something like that. We are a shoestring budget operation. One potential workaround is to scan your cookbooks into Goodreads (or LibraryThing) and then export them out and import back into Co…

Hmm. Possibly, but I have a feeling it may not be simple. I'll see if there are any free programming tools or APIs which enable this.

@Queezle - this list from the Guardian might be a useful place to look for UK (and some international) picks from a worldly publication. This was the roundup of the best food books from 2000-2010. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/…

Great discussion! There's a huge post at Publisher's Weekly online talking about new titles and trends in the industry - not only electronic cookbooks, but cookbooks taken from blogs and websites (Epicurious, for example), and a specific m…

Thank you all for the prods - I had to sit and do some programming, and it was easy to put it off with all the hubbub with the start of school (I work at a university as my day job). But now I've done it, and we'll officially start the cha…

Review confusion
Ah - this is because the recent activity list is a separate database from the actual review - items are put in it when they are created, but not updated when someone edits them. I'll see if it makes sense to do this - it might only make sense i…

Aha - I see the same bug was in the cover database. It's fixed now and I've removed the offending cover listings, so if you want to you can re-upload the affected covers. Luckily it was only 4 or 5 which were affected.

Okay, found the problem fairly quickly. Turns out the 'cloud' service we use to host images changed server names to one which is a much longer name. When I created the image system I hadn't foreseen this happening, and hadn't pro…

Uh oh - I have a feeling this is related to the service we're using to host the images and not your own issues (especially since it's more than one). I'll look into it and see what happens. Could you let me know one or two of the revi…

@Zosia: I haven't eaten at Rebar, though I should put it on my list. Every time I'm with the family in Victoria we go to Pizzeria Prima Strada, it seems... very good authentic Neapolitan style pizza. I did eat at Lumiere years ago, before…

Just a quick update - obviously I didn't set this up for the start of August. I'm shooting for the end now. Been a very, very busy summer, but things should open up after September gets underway, kids are back in school etc.

Hmm. Let me look into it. I'd rather have something which seems logical than trying to use the review numbers in a way they are not meant to be used. The 0 rating would work and I could program it to ignore 0s, but it seems an inelegant solutio…

Hi all - I'm happy to consider using Ms Shulman, either from the website, or just as an author, with all her work open for discussion. Perhaps @Zosia and @kateq could get back to us after having a look at the books this weekend?
