We used store-bought juice (as instructed), and I felt that you could really taste it - press your own juice, if you already go as far as making your own granita, it's worth it. Also, we served it with Poached Pears in Scented Honey Syrup, and that didn't work well. It made the spices disappear, and all that was left were cheap orange juice and sticky sweetness.
Edited the next day:
Oops, my husband told me the store-bought orange juice was actually orange juice that was freshly squeezed in the shop in front of his own eyes the day he made the granita. He understood what I meant, though; somehow, the granita just acquires this very not-fresh-at-all taste, possibly because the spices.
