I used to make this recipe often when my children were considerably younger…..part of the appeal back then was the recipe name, now it’s just the flavour.

The wontons are filled with a simple mixture of lean, ground turkey or chicken with Asian flavourings (green onions, soy sauce, ginger, sesame oil) added. I often make these ahead, double the recipe so that I’m using the entire package of ~60 wrappers, freeze in a single layer, then bag for later use.

The broth is just as simple, made by adding ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil and green onions to chicken broth and simmering for just a few minutes.

Despite using extra-lean ground poultry, the meat filling is tasty and succulent. Added to the flavourful broth, it makes a delicious kid and adult-friendly soup that is quick and easy to put together and low in fat (and sodium if you use reduced sodium stock and soy sauce).
