Recipe Review

A simple soup prepared with easily found ingredients - made interesting with Indian spices.
Hail and snow - after several days in the 70's - made me reluctant to shop for dinner. I scoured my freezer, and found pre-cooled barley and chicken stock, and looked for a soup without mushrooms (in deference to 13daughter). This seemed to fit the bill - onions, carrots, garlic, and ginger, plus turmeric and garam marsala - and of course the chicken stock and barley.
My soup was rather thick, and a lovely bright yellow color. The flavor seemed like a surprise, and it was good with a slice of toast.

I like the name of this soup. It sounds very inviting on such a dreary-weather day that you were having.

Yes - its always so depressing when Spring takes a hiatus, even if you know that normally you should be having snow. Interestingly, in the preamble for this recipe, Dorrie Greenspan describes the recipe being inspired by similar miserable weather.
