Our US members only have a couple of weeks until Thanksgiving. Any favourite recipes from your bookshelves you plan on making? This time of year, I usually make a pumpkin pie from freshly roasted pumpkin following this Martha Stewart Recipe http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/pumpkin-pie-seasons-eatings and Butternut Squash soup from an old family favourite cookbook: http://www.cookbooker.com/recipe/265/butternut-squash-soup-with-ginger-and-lime (reviewed by my wife, Jennifer).
I usually make mashed sweet potatoes or a potato gratin for Thanksgiving. This year, my in-laws have decided to have an Italian Thanksgiving, which I think is a great idea. Any suggestions for recipes traditionally served by Italian-Americans, particularly sides or appetizers?
I LOVE Paul Prudhomme's sweet potato-pecan pie recipe (available in the NYT archive). Its the perfect compromise. Pumpkin-like bottom, pecan pie-like top, and with the Chantilly cream, its to die for.
