I actually have the 1995 softcover edition of this book with slightly different graphics. Among other things, the background to the photo is red.
Above all else, this book is visual delight. Most pages have a gorgeous sidebar with prints of various textiles from India, and the photos are all richly and carefully composed with vivid colour and exotic accessories.
Panjabi includes some great background information on the various spices and lesser-known ingredients, and the curry recipes include some unusual ones such as watermelon curry. She also does a favour and proposes a variety of menu plans at the back of the book.
The recipes themselves are a bit complex and will undoubtedly require a shopping trip to your local Indian spice shop. Panjabi doesn't seem to make any concessions to tradition!
