I usually make mashed sweet potatoes or a potato gratin for Thanksgiving. This year, my in-laws have decided to have an Italian Thanksgiving, which I think is a great idea. Any suggestions for recipes traditionally served by Italian-Americans, particularly sides or appetizers?
I won't be cooking this year as we are the guests -- but in general, my entire Thanksgiving menu comes from the November 1994 and November 1995 issues of Bon Appetit. I may recycle other issues, but those two have a place on my shelves forever.
I LOVE Paul Prudhomme's sweet potato-pecan pie recipe (available in the NYT archive). Its the perfect compromise. Pumpkin-like bottom, pecan pie-like top, and with the Chantilly cream, its to die for.
