I finally got a bookcase for my cookbooks
I sort them alphabetically on author. I don't have to put the larger cookbooks on a different shelf now - the bookcase I had before was too low for many of my cookbooks.

The New Future of Cookbooker
Looking into this a bit further doesn't do much to alleviate my worries. No forum? No search function for any recipes other than your own? How are we going to keep in touch with each other?

I know I'm a little late here, and if this works out I will be totally happy. However, how are our books going to fit on MasterCook? I see only room for internet recipes there. And of course you can put any single recipe on there, but I don…

Food/Cooking-related must-do things in the UK?
River cottage has quite a range of interesting activities, I think, but it's in Devon, so I don't know if it would be worth the extra travel for you. http://www.rivercottage.net/

Next challenge?
@kaye16: I don't think so. It looked quite like I expected it to look, and it is bitter and unsweetened. And don't forget that mastic actually means something to chew!

I found mastic at a Moroccan/Iranian (and possibly Turkish as well) shop. It was just an unmarked packet, and when I asked what it was, I got the answer "It's a kind of chewing gum. It's a bit bitter".

@Zosia: it depends a bit. Some recipes, such as the new style sashimi, don't look all that complicated, and the ingredients are quite straightforward, although you do need yuzu juice even for this one. Other recipes need really weird ingredie…

How about Japanese? I just bought Nobu : the cookbook, and I have some other Japanese cookbooks, but I never seem to really make anything from them as they tend to need ingredients I don't have in my cupboard. Maybe a challenge would help me m…

Or a general challenge on Greek cooking? There must be so many good Greek cookbooks around, it seems a shame to focus on just one.

Healthy / Lo-Cal Challenge Ideas
I will definitely NOT participate in such a challenge, as I don't believe in the whole low-fat idea (or should I say myth?) anymore. It is based on bad science, and for many people (including myself) it is not the optimal way to stay in shape.

Searching My Cookbooks
You can already search within the titles of all the indexed recipes in your cookbooks with "Search your bookshelf" on the home page. You can also search the tags of your books by clicking on them.

OK, then I misunderstood, I thought it was just these two as prizes. Thanks for clarifying!

Newest Challenge - Paula Wolfert's Moroccan Cooking
Thank you for yet another challenge - just cooked a recipe from Couscous and Other Good Food, and it was lovely. But isn't it a bit weird to have the cookbooks we will be cooking from as prizes?

I second the Moroccan food challenge as well. I haven't been able to participate much in the challenges since I went low-carb a year ago, but this would be nice. I wouldn't mind doing more ethnic cuisines after this one either. What about…

@ foodiewife: You can add tags to single recipes, but only when you review them, not when you just index them.

@Jayme: if you are adding books (my bookshelf, add a new title) you can search by ISBN. Filling in just the ISBN works as well.

@andrew, do you mean it is possible already to add the cuisine and course when just indexing the recipe? The way it is laid out at the moment (with only the title and the page number above the index button), I thought it wouldn't be possible, s…

Search engines and recipes - NYT article
I actually do use Eat your books for finding recipes. That way I can search quite a few of my cookbooks and filter on ingredients, for instance. And then when I find a nice recipe, I cook it and review it here. Isn't that a win-win situation? …

I was very enthusiastic about the ingredients feature, but if I try to enter anything, I get "No Recipe. Sorry, but there is no recipe with this ID".

Yes, I'd love a Smitten Kitchen challenge at some time as well. I'm all for vegetarian challenges in principle - I just will not participate very actively in them as they are difficult to combine with my current diet.

I think substitutions are fine when you still get a good idea of how it would have been with the original ingredients. But this is quite a "precise" cookbook, where small differences often do matter. And that means substitutions get too bi…
