Queezle Sister
This picture shows Queezle, a quail who lived with us for a year. She because our friend (not dinner), but eventually a wild male courted her through the window, and so she returned to the wild.

When does the next challenge begin?
I, too, try to get my friends and colleagues to join. This is a great place, cookbooker, and it feels like family. So glad when new members find us. Andrew always has the last say on the challenges. He is super busy, but hopefully soon he will…

When does the next challenge begin?
Hopefully we can find a challenge that will suit us all, regardless of hemisphere or time zone. There are so many great cookbooks.

When does the next challenge begin?
Yes, Denise, its a great resource and so useful for keeping track of the recipes one has tried. After joining a couple years ago, I've cooked so much more, tried so many "risky" recipes, and learned a tremendous amount. It has also …

When does the next challenge begin?
Hi Denise, and welcome! Typically we have about a month between challenges. The guru for this site, Andrew, is very busy, and he sets up the challenges as he is able. I'm looking forward to reading your reviews and cooking with you on the …

Zosia - you are a cooking machine! So wonderful - I like thinking about all your family enjoying the fruits of your labor. It sounds wonderful. I prepared a roasted chicken (from the Olive and Caper cookbook), and Brussels Sprouts from "A Gi…

Happy Easter, friends. Right on schedule, our daffodils are blooming, and the wild quail are running through our yard. I might have even seen a cottontail bunny this morning. I hope you all have a lovely day. My egg chick attempt is here, and I …

My Greek Easter Bread is rising. Couldn't find mahlepi, and rather than substitute I increased the ground mastic by maybe 30%. The dough has a marvelous flavor!

My math-minded son likes this idea very much. I really enjoyed reading all your reviews. I like these informal efforts to honor the seasons.

As a simple work-around, when I make a big mistake in my star rating, can I delete the review, and then re-review? Would the system "see" the replaced review? Perhaps I need to NOT review when I am so tired, but if not then, I fear I…

Probably my fault. When I went to review, I somehow saved the review without modifying the "star" rating. I then went back to move it to its clearly earned "5" rating. I think the system captures the first version for the home…

Day of Pi(e)
With a son who is nuts about math, we will definitely join you. I think my son knows pi to about 400 decimal places. Lets all put Pi as one of our tags so we can easily follow this - year to year. Great idea, Friederike.

Maybe I'll have to taste one. I've had the little jar on my kitchen table, and everyone in the family is doing a great job of ignoring it.

Mastic -- I finally bought a small jar. What an odd smell, it doesn't seem like anything I want to eat. Is this your experience - an odd aroma? My little jar has unevenly sized globs, with a white powdery substance on the outside. Brand na…

One more little bug -- when you are on the challenge page, and the bottom left and click "see all reviews" (just above the orange title for previous challenges) - it takes you to the Bayless reviews.

I think the home page's announcement of this challenge has a photograph of our previous challenge's author. You can find a picture of Susanna Hoffman here: http://www.susannahoffman.com/about.html

I recently found mastic at my local Italian market! I guess this means that you might find it in unusual places, so keep your eyes open.

I picked up the cookbook during the week. I'm guessing if we go ahead and start cooking, perhaps Andrew will grandfather in our January reviews. I'm hoping to find a recipe for an amazing fava bean dip I had in Crete in 2004. If you see…

My recent activity feed shows a comment by BethNH about Zosia's twinkie bundt cake (whoo hoo what a cake), but when I looked at the recipe, her comment was absent!

How many reviews are there?
Yes Zosia - I get logged out automatically mid-review and that puts ghost reviews into the system! For some reason I am still getting logged out. Must be the old browser version I'm using?
