Queezle Sister
This picture shows Queezle, a quail who lived with us for a year. She because our friend (not dinner), but eventually a wild male courted her through the window, and so she returned to the wild.

A Lasagne Winter
For me, lasagna prep is typically 4 hrs, definitely a Sunday afternoon type of thing. I looked at Bittman's how to cook everything vegetarian, and am intrigued by a pesto lasagna (I have a lot of frozen pesto that we need to consume).

A Lasagne Winter
So many good suggestions! I've been sticking with whole wheat, and boiling the noodles, as Andrew says. In the past, I used the white ones - no boil or regular - without cooking and with some success. @Beth - I bet I've been using my 8 …

We are up to 13000 reviews - with the 13000th review being a 5-star kettle corn recipe! Power on, cookbookers!

So many excellent choices! I'm think that my long-wished-for kitchen remodel will finally start in Feb or March. It would be great to participate in a challenge before most cooking shuts down for me.

How do you start a cookbook club?
Cookbook club update time. In October we used an older natural foods cookbook - Rodale's Basic Natural Foods Cookbook. This older cookbook has no photographs, it is large (lots of recipes), and for me, at least, it was difficult to find somet…

Such a good question. My christmas list says "any book by Ottolenghi", but based on past experience, I expect to be doing my own purchasing.

'Modernist Cuisine' authors launch free online cooking school
There are now videos up on chefsteps -- http://www.chefsteps.com/ -- and you can preview the lessons. My advice - don't do it on an empty stomach. The videos are well executed (as you'd expect based on the photography in modernist cuisin…

My book arrived just before thanksgiving, and thank you so much. I was in such a rush I thought it was something boring I had ordered -- you can imagine my delight when when I opened it up. Such a great addition to the collection.

It is difficult to convey the reasons with the stars, and I suppose that is why we have the verbal part. But I do like the idea of the duel rating.

It amazes me when people deface library books! I checked out a food magazine last year, and the one recipe I wanted to make was removed. I do think that most of these recipes are available on line. And as a preview (review not written yet), nobod…

What makes a cookbook a clunker and what do you do with them?
Friends, you are making me feel a bit better about my cookbook collection! It had not occurred to me to get rid of a cookbook until I saw this review from AJ. I had just picked up the reviewed cookbook (cheap, yard sale).

That book (essential NYT cookbook) is owned by 43 cookbookers and it has two excellent reviews. Not a bad idea at all! I also picked up Olive and the Caper from the library - it looks like a fun read. But as always, I'm up for anything. …

I'll add my thanks, too. It was a great challenge, and I've gained new appreciation for the NYT Recipes for Health (this week - kugels - which I hardly even know how to define). And the many reviews made the challenge especially exciting.
