Looking for easy romantic dessert
I have a somewhat lighter suggestion. My fear would be that these are rich desserts with a heavy (but delicious sounding) meal. I'd like to suggest Mark Bittman's Mexican Chocolate Pudding as an alternative. It actually healthy, tastes …

my personal cookbooker challenge
AJ - For me, its easiest to focus on one cookbook. Over the past 2 weeks, I've focused on a Rhode Island cookbook that my mother gave me years ago, and which I'd never used. I had intended to stop at 3 recipes, but made it up to 5 recipe…

Future Challenges
The good thing is that Moosewood should be in every library. I'm curious about the new edition - my copy was a gift from my husband in 1989 - 22 years ago! I understand that the new version has some modified recipes. It will be interesting t…

I love the idea of using Moosewood for the challenge. It is a true classic, and my copy (which I've had for more than 15 years) is sadly without much kitchen splatter! I would enjoy seriously digging into it.

Wow - you guys really have a wealth of cookbooks! This is clearly a much easier personal challenge for me with my ~ 50 book library. For me, focusing on one cookbook simplifies my life. I work about 60 hrs/week, and I tend to get "analysis p…

My thoughts were that some items have recipes in several different cookbooks. Rather than having to check indexes of all your cookbooks, if there was some way on cookbooker to link (and perhaps compare) them, that would be useful.

Hi Andrew, Tonight I cooked and reviewed a kale and potato gratin. I used a recipe from the internet, but it was similar to one from a cookbook (difference, 1 C cream). This made me wonder about linking the reviews in some way. For example, if I …

New Feature: Cover Uploads
It looks fantastic, Andrew! And I recently bought a new scanner, so I'll learn to use it by scanning the missing covers from my library.

Cabbage Club - Cooking with Winter Vegetables and the New York Times
Tonight I tried a great sandwich that includes cabbage, beets, and carrots, review here: http://www.cookbooker.com/recipe/13719/the-sandwich-for-bleucheese-fans I was surprised at how sweet that raw beet was, and had to make more of everything to sa…

Any suggestions for Brussel sprout recipe? Usually I do a simple oven roast - that is the only way I've found that I like them - but I'd love to branch out.

Newest Challenge: The Zuni Cafe Cookbook
I don't mind not winning a cookbook. And I think the enthusiasm of competition would still be there for my kids if there was a list of technical winners (i.e. non prize winners). I love the journey of discovery that these contests give me, an…

I agree that a competition, with a chance to win, is great motivation. And I have to say that I felt badly when Southerncooker and I surged ahead, essentially putting AJ and Wester out of competition. I am using the cookbooker competitions not o…

My thinking is that the list of cookbooks is more than 100 pages. I can't scroll through all of those (although it might be interesting). If you could instead search "vegetarian" (through tags, I guess) and then sort the list so tha…

It would be great to be able to sort cookbooks by the number of owners. That is, sort it not just alphabetically but so the most-owned is at the top. Maybe you can do that already, but if so, I haven't figured it out. Ha - you can probably t…

How do you organize your cookbooks?
Wow! You guys are all seriously organized - I am impressed. I keep my ~50 cookbooks on a shelf over my oven. Its a deep shelf, and half my cookbooks have to be in the back. Every once in a while, I rotate them by moving the ones in the back to t…

How do you store and organise your herbs and spices?
You are so luck to have lots of fresh herbs available! I hope someone knowledgeable will weigh in. I just used my dried sage recently, and even though its only a year or so old, it had no aroma, no flavor. I definitely need to go through and get …

How do you store and organise your herbs and spices?
How often do you buy fresh spices? Do you buy from mail-order sources (some claim to be much fresher than grocery stores)? I keep track of how old my herbs and spices are, but I have a lot of trouble tossing them out - instead I'm inclined to…

Polenta Advice
I used the 5:1 ratio suggested in Zuni, and was also worried. But the recipe also had a very long cook time - about an hour on the stovetop. I didn't put a lid on the pot, and while it started very, very thin, it did thicken up over time. I …

aj - I'm so sorry! I'm guessing you might have had some time while those onion pickles were tediously being processed? I've had my eye on that recipe, and with your review I will have to give it a try.
