This recipe has potential. Rice is mixed with dried blueberries, raw almonds, salt, milk/water (hot) is poured over it, and it is baked.
I tried using some dried out frozen berries, which undoubtedly gave a lot more juice than would have been produced by dried berries. The result was a gray-blue-purple rice mixture. Adding to the unfortunate color, the raw almonds self blanched in the cooking, and the surface was decorated by almond skins. I recommend instead using blanched almonds, and dried fruit (unless you like eating strangely colored food).
We hid the almond skins with a sprinkling of dark brown sugar, and it tastes pretty good. I especially like the flavor from the added orange zest, and the roughly chopped almonds gave a nice crunch.
Update: the next day, served cold, this was very tasty, much better than hot out of the oven. Blueberries, almonds, and orange zest were all very distinct flavors, and the rice with almonds gave a good texture.
