Very nice flavor, but a lot of steps.
In this recipe, you boil up your ham bone to make a ham broth, then add your split peas, cut and caramelize vegetables (onion, carrots, celery), add potatoes, and at the end splash a bit of balsamic on it.
This was very tasty. I only had yellow split peas at home, and wished for that lovely pea green color. The soup was very thick, but it was enjoyed by all.
I give it "only" a four because I'm not convinced that its that much better than a recipe that might require much less work.
