This recipe has intrigued me since I first leafed through the book. Finally, a ripe avocado escaped the lunch time grazing, and made it into this drink.
An odd drink - you wipe a bit of orange flower water on some dates, remove the pits, and toss them into the blender. Then you add blanched almonds, avocado, a tiny bit of sugar, and some milk, whir it up, and sieve out the solids.
I loved the flavor of this drink. It was thick, but not too thick, and it had a distinct delicious almond flavor. The avocado flavor was subtle, but there. Not sure, though, that I could taste the date.
Two things that you should know if you are going to make this. First, it will work best if you have a really good blender (I have the cheapo one from costco). That will allow you to really pulverize the almonds. Second, if you can be patient while sieving out the almond chunks, you will end up with a lovely product. I have both a fine and a medium sieve. I was simply not patient enough for the fine sieve (though it was working) and switched to the coarser one. I don't mind a bit of chew in my beverage, but it was not appreciated by the others here.
Would I make it again? If I had a better blender, definitely a maybe. Or maybe a definitely. But only if its a day that I feel patient.
