Recipe Review

Intrigued by the fig-cranberry combination, I had to whip up a small (1/2) batch of this sauce. I served it with some braised chicken thighs. It produced a beautiful sauce - the fig pieces were distinct, and gave a slight sweet flavor - and the star anise did not overwhelm the flavors (I'm a bit leery of star anise). However, the recipe only calls for 1/4 C sugar (brown) for 12 oz cranberries, and so its quite tart. I think I would have enjoyed it more with more sweetness, and it would not be my choice if I were to serve only a single type of cranberry sauce for thanksgiving dinner.
