Mint chocolate chip ice cream is one of my favorite flavors of ice cream. I noticed the recipe called for fresh mint. I was a bit disappointed because the local grocery store doesn’t carry fresh mint too often. A few days ago at the farmers market, I was walking past a booth and I could smell the mint from several feet away. I rushed up and I knew exactly what I was going to do with that mint. I couldn’t wait to get home and start this recipe.

The recipe starts off like all the other ice cream recipes, with heating the milk and cream and letting the flavors of the mint infuse into the milk. The resulting smell from the cream and fresh mint was phenomenal.

The taste of this ice cream was very good, but I think it was a bit too sweet. I am not sure if it is because there were 1 and 1/3 cups of sugar or if the mint was so much fresher and stronger than expected. I even thought the mint flavor was stonger than I may have liked, but it could be because I wasn’t used to tasting ice cream made out without artificial mint flavor. Next time I may cut back on the sugar since some of the other recipes call for as little as 1/3 cup and average seems to be ¾ cup.

I also made this ice cream to go with Ice Cream Sandwiches (p 325) with Chocolate Shortbread Cookies (p 330) since it was one of the good ice cream sandwich combinations suggested.
