Delicious, moist, fluffy, and a chocolate-like flavor that is hard to place.

This was my daughter's first from-scratch layer cake, and she frosted it all by herself. Its a rich recipe, with lots of butter, and a bit of Dr. Pepper both in the batter and in the frosting.

We found that the cake took about 40 minutes to bake - not the 30 - 35 called for in the recipe. The frosting was amazing!

2014 update -- this cake remains a favorite of my daughter.

My boyfriend would love me so hard if I made him a Dr. pepper cake. I think 8'm going to have to track the recipe down.

Hey Jayme - - I found a link! We skipped the butter-flavored shortening in the frosting, and used all butter instead. It tasted great, but was probably softer that one made with the shortening. Enjoy! You'll have to invite all the cookbooker if this leads to wedding bells!

Lol, as long as I don't have to mae enough Dr. Pepper cake for all of them! I couldn't see your link, but I found this one and it looks the same?http://homecooking.about.com/od/cakerecipes/r/blc27.htm That's your picture for this review right? Did this recipe make enough to do two layers like that? Or did you do a double. I've always wanted to do a double layer cake and look all fancy schmany, but my cakes are usually very simple.

Yes, that is the cake my 12 yr old daughter made. One batch gave me two nice fluffy layers, and the frosting was the perfect amount - covered the cake plus about 1/4 C for our fingers.

Oh - and Jayme, just click the tab that says "link" and it should open a window with the link. But it sounds like you found it.

That's a pretty pro cake she made. I'm so impressed! I never noticed the link tab. Thanks!

I need to try this one as my hubby used to be addicted to Dr. Pepper. Tell daughter she did an outstanding job.

Will do! Daughter is busy with 5 adorable little baby chickens - such fun - hopefully she won't lose her enthusiasm for cooking.
