Privacy Policy

Collection of Personal Information

When you register, Cookbooker collects your email address, a username, and a password. Your profile may also include optional information: city, country, an "About Me" section, and links to favourite cookbooks or recipes. Your username and optional profile information are public. Your email address is always private.

Use of Personal Information

We will never sell information that personally identifies you to any third party. We may share anonymous aggregate information (e.g. popular books or recipe trends) with partners. We will not send you emails unless required for account administration or, on an opt-in basis, for newsletters and notifications you have chosen to receive. All non-essential email communications include an unsubscribe option.

Public Forums

Cookbooker provides public forums where members can post and discuss. The protections in this Privacy Policy do not apply to information you share publicly in forums. Content you post in public areas may be seen by anyone, including third parties. We are not responsible for events arising from information you choose to post publicly.

Contests, Surveys & Special Offers

If we run contests, surveys, or special offers — whether by us or a third party — additional personal information may be requested. Separate terms will be provided for each such event.

Cookies

Cookbooker uses strictly necessary cookies only: a session cookie to keep you logged in, and a CSRF token cookie to protect forms from cross-site attacks. These cookies are essential for the site to function and do not contain personally identifying information. We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies. If we introduce any non-essential cookies in future we will update this policy and seek your consent where required by law.

We also keep standard server log files tracking visits (as all web servers do). This information is used internally; we may share anonymous aggregate data (e.g. visitor counts) with third parties.

Law Enforcement

We will cooperate with legal authorities where we are subject to local law if explicitly compelled to do so (e.g. by a lawful subpoena, warrant, or court order).

Your Rights

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection / Restriction — object to or restrict how we process your data.

To exercise any of these rights, or if you have a privacy concern, please contact us. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

General Terms of Service

Individual Accounts

Cookbooker accounts are designed for personal collections of opinions, reviews, and commentary from your personal library.

Security

We make reasonable efforts to keep your personal information secure, including the use of encryption. However, no transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

Age Requirement

In compliance with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), Cookbooker is not designed to collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not register or provide any information on this site.

Account Termination

You may request account deletion at any time by contacting us. We will confirm deletions by email and remove your personal data within 30 days. We reserve the right to suspend or cancel accounts that have been inactive for an extended period or that violate these terms.

Content & Copyright

Your Content

Your content belongs to you and you may edit or remove it at any time. By submitting content to Cookbooker you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to display and distribute it on the platform. This does not restrict what you can do with your own content elsewhere — it is non-exclusive.

We do not allow submission of content protected by third-party intellectual property rights without the owner's permission. In particular, please do not copy and post full recipes from published cookbooks — copyright in most jurisdictions covers the full expression of a recipe, including instructions and commentary. We are here to promote cookbooks, not to undermine authors' livelihoods. To report a potential infringement, please contact us.

Cookbooker Content

All website content created by Cookbooker — text, graphics, software, and other materials — is owned by Cookbooker or its licensors. Except for the limited use rights granted to you here, all rights are reserved.

Prohibited Activity

Users who abuse the service will have their accounts suspended or terminated and may be barred from the site. Prohibited activity includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using Cookbooker for any illegal activity.
  • Submitting content that is harassing, threatening, libelous, obscene, hateful, or inflammatory.
  • Impersonating other users or misrepresenting your affiliation with any person or organisation.
  • Spamming, chain letters, or unsolicited promotion of products or services.
  • Submitting fake reviews — positive reviews of your own work under assumed names, or negative reviews of competitors for commercial reasons.
  • Scraping or automated harvesting of content without our written permission.

To report objectionable content, use the report function on any review. For other concerns, contact us.

Small Print

The website and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind. These terms are subject to change. We will post notice of material changes on this page. We are committed to user privacy and to the principle that you control your own submitted content.
