This is the fourth cake I have tried from this book and each one is better than the last. This one is amazing. The flavor (which comes from dates and Guinness stout) and texture are just great. It is already an embarrassment of riches even before you add the final touches -- the toffee sauce and some lightly whipped (or even not whipped) creme fraiche. It is decadent but oh-so-worth-it!
