This is a nice alternative to the green bean casserole. Everyone seemed to appreciate the freshness of it. Since the topping is prepared separately, it also gives you the option of serving some of the beans plain if some guests don't care for mushrooms. The topping can be made a day ahead, and the beans take only a few minute to blanch, so it's a convenient recipe too when you're cooking a lot for a holiday dinner.
